Дети — это будущее. И в Камбодже — особенно, потому что на 2005-ый год средний возраст камбоджийцев составлял 18 лет. Оно и понятно: после падения режима Пол Пота прошло не так уж много времени, многие люди не пережили этот режим, много семей разрушилось, много детей оказалось сиротами...

Но страна пережила эту трагедию и начала возрождаться. Мужчины и женщины вновь стали сходиться, начали рождаться дети — в камбоджийских семьях, как правило, много детей.

Как нам рассказала одна женщина, пережившая режим Пол Пота и отработавшая в трудовом лагере на рисовых полях три года, при режиме «красных кхмеров» супругов друг другу назначали, а за неповиновение полагалась смерть. Разумеется, это не вызывало никаких романтических чувств, детей в таких браках в общем-то не было, тем более что мужчины и женщины жили в раздельных бараках.

К счастью, это теперь всё в прошлом. Войны закончились, наступила мирная жизнь. Возможно, не у всех она успешная, но, по крайней мере, дети в этой стране стали улыбаться. И это уже хорошо.

Будем надеяться, что так будет и в будущем.

Children are the future. And in Cambodia — especially, because in 2005, the average age of the Cambodians was 18 years. It is understandable: after the fall of the Pol Pot regime, not much time has passed. Many people did not survive this regime, many families were destroyed, many children were orphaned...

But the country outlasted this tragedy and began to revive. Men and women began to come together again, and children began to be born. Cambodian families, as a rule, have many children.

As one woman, who survived the Pol Pot regime and worked in a rice paddy labor camp for three years, told us, under the Khmer Rouge regime, spouses were assigned to each other, and the penalty for disobedience was death. Obviously, this did not cause any romantic feelings. As a rule, there were no children in such marriages, especially since men and women lived in separate barracks.

Fortunately, that's all in the past now. The wars are over, there is a peaceful life. Maybe, not all people live successful, but at least the children in this country have started to smile. And this is great.

Let's hope that this will be the case in the future.
